EMERGENT LIGHTING SY

John Peterson patented The Emergent Lighting System, US Patent # 7255454, and founded Emergent Lighting Systems, LLC in 2007. The Emergent Lighting System is designed to be an emergency egress and mass notification system to be activated in various emergency situations. The system is mounted in or over the baseboard, shoe mold, and or chair rail. It can also be installed in or under crown mold of a room as determined by each facility. The unit is designed to have the flashing circuit in the floor areas only, but can be modified easily for each individual user. Each emergency situation has a designated color code programmed into the system that can also be determined by the user. It is up to the user to train the personnel at their facility what each condition the colors will represent.
In the event of a smoke/fire alert, the pathway will be illuminated with emergency lighting that will direct an individual toward the nearest exit. This is done with a set of Green LED lights that flash or strobe, to the nearest exit point. This puts the emergency lighting on the floor where and individual would be crawling out of a burning building. Most emergency lighting is mounted on the ceiling. This will become obscured by smoke as the fire increases. By putting the egress lighting on the floor the individual can follow along the path made by the strobe effect of the Green LEDs to the nearest exit
The Emergent Lighting System utilizes various colors to transmit various different threats. The system also incorporates the use of Red, Blue, Amber or yellow, and White LEDs. Each of these can be illuminated to indicate a different emergency situation. These could include: an intruder alert, a severe weather alert an unauthorized person on a secure floor, or any other hazard. The system also provides emergency floor level lighting in the event of a loss of building power.

In the event of an Intruder Alert an individual would press a “panic button” which would turn on the appropriate color LED in the base in every room in the facility instantly alerting every employee in the building that there is a problem so that they are able to quickly and quietly take action. This instantly relays that threat potential to the entire facility or campus. This includes multiple buildings. As soon as the system is activated EVERY installed unit turns on.
