HMS currently provides the operational management for the Tennessee Aquarium’s new 70 passenger, River Gorge Explorer. The RGE is the only high speed (50+ mph) passenger vessel approved for operation on an Inland waterway. HMS consulted on the project throughout its development and have held its first operational contract since it went into operation almost two years ago. As part of the RGE project, we wrote the only USCG approved “Operations, Safety & Training Manual” for an Inland High Speed Vessel.
HMS partners have been in the passenger vessel business for over thirty years as owner/operators, managers, builders, surveyors, consultants, and of course, Captains. Our extensive experience has provided us many unique opportunities including: building three certificated passenger vessels, traveling most of the waterways & coasts of the eastern U.S., operating many types of vessels, and the pleasure/responsibility of safely carrying hundreds of thousands of passengers.
One of the hallmarks of HMS service for passenger vessels is the development of Safety & Training and Operations Manuals that enhance the crew’s ability to achieve and maintain the high safety & service standards desired in the passenger vessel industry. We also can provide the same level of expertise for the recreational boat owner by developing a vessel specific Maintenance & Operations Manual/Log.
HMS surveys and reports are complete in scope, clearly written, definitive in recommendations or suggestions, and produced in a timely manner.
Our Captains are professional in dealing with customers/passengers, proficient in vessel handling and operations, and well versed with hands-on experience in marine systems and maintenance issues. But none of the above matters without keeping a focus on the bottom line. Every aspect of vessel management has to be administered with a cost/benefit perspective.
HMS maintains a roster of seasoned Masters to allow us the flexibility to schedule crew time-off and the preparedness for unscheduled crewing issues. We have the capability to have experienced marine professionals or HMS management personnel on site on a short notice basis when necessary.
