In 2002, my parents and I opened L'esprit Salon & Spa after I lured them out of retirement from the same industry on the East coast. We built a successful hair salon and day spa on the premise of "approachable luxury"...high end services without a high end attitude. This has served our business and employees quite well, especially with the economic downturn Michigan has experienced. We continue to use the tag line, "pretty, sexy, affordable" we launched in 2008 as our business continues to grow. Overall sales were up in 2009 over prior year and we are on pace for continued upward movement. After seeing a void in the marketplace, in 2004 we decided to open a cosmetology school. Five years later, L'esprit Academy earned accreditation and approval through the Department of Education to offer Federal Student Loans. Since September 2009, we have more than doubled our student population and have added several staff positions. The two companies complement each other well. Both locations offer hair, skin and nail services to clients. L'esprit Salon & Spa has only licensed, experienced technicians providing the services. L'esprit Academy is a cosmetology school with a clinic offering hair, skin and nail services performed by students and supervised by licensed instructors. Both locations use only the best products in the business like L'Oreal Professionnel, Redken, AG, Dermalogica, and OPI. We specialize in groups (bridal, special event, etc.) and media projects such as film, photo shoots, fashion shows and off-site demonstrations. We are in the process of launching several new marketing initiatives, renovations and technology upgrades to stay in pace with our business growth.
