This cartoon came, as many often do, from hearing something on the radio or reading something in the paper. I remember hearing “reaction to the news was mixed,” which stood out to me as one of those phrases we take for granted, but never really think about. Those are lots of fun to poke holes in.

Even stranger though, is that while I thought about this cartoon and what I would write, the caption sparked another idea:

News anchor on TV - “Reaction to the news was mixed, poured in a 9 x 13 pan, and baked at 350 degrees for 35 minutes until golden brown.”

I haven’t drawn it up yet, but I like it, and I think it’s the first time one of my own cartoons became the source for another cartoon.

It just goes to show you that you never know where the next idea is hiding.
