Are you using Twitter effectively? Do you care?

Hello Open members,

Are you using Twitter? How's it going for you? Are you overwhelmed by the constant pitches for who great Twitter is?

There's a lot of 'lovin' from American Express here on this website about the benefits of Twitter. My company uses Twitter and I'm an avid reader of this website's news and information.

However, since I'm also the CEO of a small business and interact with many fellow owners, I know that Twitter is hard to pick-up, difficult to get the hang of, and is delivering spotty or no benefits to most all who use it.

I'd like to begin a discussion here with others if you are having the these results. I think showing all sides of an issue makes us all smarter and perhaps we can learn from each other how to both use it and other ways to grow our businesses.

what do YOU think?

Paul, I thinkm that Twitter is a game-changing technology. We just have to band together and get rid of the crud. The Franchise King, Joel Libava

Joel, what kinds of crud need to go and what's out there that can really help the small business looking to take their first big leap into the Twitter revolution?

Joel - well said. As you know already, we're two birds of the same feather :-) I also believe the "game changing" part is still far from accessible for the average small biz and hopefully we can work to bring the power to thousands of them! Cheers, Paul

Hi, the crud I am speaking of is the "Increase your followers by 2,000 OVERNIGHT" kind of Tweets, and also the millions of MLM'rs that try to entice us with their Twitter user names that all seem to have "Gold, or Wealth" in them. CRUD.

I, too, believe that Twitter needs to be refined, but think that it offers small businesses extra visibility to their customers or potential customers that is invaluable. Use of Twitter doesn't net results right away, but it does make users aware of your brand, particularly if what you tweet about is relevent to them. It's my opinion that the more visable you are, the more potential customers you may get....it's a good investment of a little time for a larger payoff in the future.
