I have an invention (my own) that is despirately needed in property Hurricane damage disputes. Who can I contact about funding this after I paid for the two first successful prototypes myself.

Some ideas to find contacts: your patent attorney; local university -- offices of technology transfer or commercialization; potential users such as insurance companies or property managers. They could be great sources of information for referrals; you can also talk with them about whether you are looking for funds to patent and sell idea for royalties, or whether you need funds to manufacture, sell, and distribute the product yourself.

I suggest patenting this invention first if you have not already done that. The next step would depend on the size of your launch. If you wish to start on a smaller scale you can look for angel investors. Venture capitalists want a big launch with big returns. That's my two cents. Hope it helps.

Hi Greg - you should maintain your invention confidential during the initial stages until you have a patent application filed, assuming your invention is eligible for patent protection. You can use a provisional patent application when you're ready to seek patent protection. A provisional patent application will help you manage costs while protecting your idea. If you must disclose your invention to a third-party, then you should use a non-disclosure or confidentiality agreement with the third-party to insure that they will not disclose your invention to another. Not only do you risk having another party steal your idea, you potentially can lose valuable patent rights in the U.S. and in foreign countries by such disclosures.
