If we want to create truly original products and services, we must be skeptical of conventional wisdom. Not surprisingly, numerous creative entrepreneurs that Behance has interviewed over the years attribute their greatest achievements to having spurned the tried-and-true approach.
I have to check out Stefan Sagmeister's work. On a related note, I think that Frank Lloyd Wright is a great example of an individual who went against conventional wisdom and instead walked his own path.

Bucking conventional wisdom does lead to innovation and can drive positive change in all discplines. Sometimes though following conventional wisdom can prevent reinventing the wheel but it's always good to do a reality check on whether the wisdom is wise or not.
