Recently the Conference Board did their annual review of CEO's and Business Leaders on their top 10 concerns. For two years running it was highlighted that "Effective Execution of Strategy" was the number one concern.
We spend so much time adding complexities to our businesses which of course handicaps us. We need to take back the simplicity and get back to basics. Business is about a shared vision, strategy and activities to accomplish such.
If you are not on the same page, or don't know if you are, what are you measuring and managing? How do you know if you are on the same page? Are you doing strategy and planning once and year, and then what do you do with the results? Are you creating simplicity and are you utilizing your strategic assets (people, finances and information) to meet the vision and strategies?
If you cannot answer these questions, hesitate or don't know the real answers, then it is likely you are not working in harmony and thus not effectively executing your vision and strategy. So then the question becomes are you handicapping your business, creating only vertical alignment, if that, and what about the horizontal alignment, across functions, and of course creating effective execution of your businesses strategy?
Thoughts?
