What defines "leadership"?

In an Innovation article, Laurel Delaney wrote about the “10 Traits of High-Performance Leaders”. What would you consider to be among those traits?

The best leaders are those who are SELFLESS. They recognize that their role is to FACILITATE the success of others and therefore SERVE or meet the needs of others. As a result of their need being met, a LEADER can EXTRACT the best from subordinates in terms of innovation, strong work ethics, integrity, etc. thereby moving an entire organization forward.

In my research among strategic leaders, the most successful had a vision that inspired others and the ability to engage every employee to execute plans to reach that vision. They used a robust, clear mission to guide daily action and decision making. They also exhibited the characteristics Isha Edwards cited above.
