Small business owners aren't united behind the Obama administration's health care reform. Some groups are trying to stop it because they believe the plan will do more harm than good. The NFIB has joined 20 states in trying to overturn the law. Karen Harned, the executive director of the NFIB small business legal center, explains why the organization wants to see health care reform stopped.

Since when is it NFIB's business to protect individual constitutional rights? They represent business as a whole and not individuals. They are simply a lobbying group and do not represent my business of 20 employees.

My understanding is that community rating (allowing policy underwriting based on geographical area) doesn't preclude statewide or even regional (interstate) exchanges -- though the exchanges do need to cover a specified area. Small businesses should -- based on the exchanges and administrative services offered through the exchanges -- be able to get policies designed similar to those offered by corporations and at competitive costs, though it does seem that the cost of individual policies may rise, partly because of stricter standards.
