Mark Vadon co-founded online diamond retailer Blue Nile in 1999 and turned it into a successful company that went public in 2004. Today, Vadon is starting another business called Zulily, and he's taking some lessons with him. "Just through the experience you know more and more it's all about the people," Vadon told Business Insider CEO Henry Blodget. The Zulily chairman has been in e-commerce for 12 years now, and he has surrounded himself with people he can rely on who know the ins-and-outs of the industry. Zulily, however, is a daily deals site for "moms, babies and kids" -- the complete opposite demographic of Blue Nile. Rather than apply all the same tactics he used to turn Blue Nile into a success, Mark Vadon only takes into account applicable lessons learned.
