When I help organizations write marketing plans (non-profits and for-profits) I encourage them to write a marketing mission statement just as you would for the overall business plan. For a non-profit it may be "increase awareness by 15%" or "increase donations by 20%". For a for-profit it might be "increase awareness of the organization in the marketplace by 15%" or "increase our market capitalization by 10%". By assigning a real, measurable target to your mission statement it's easy during your annual review to determine if your marketing has been successful.I also suggest creating a list of words and phrases that describe the organisation as a way to begin building the brand. When designing marketing materials the content should focus on these key words/phrases whenever possible. Finally, keep a record of simple things like the exact colors used in your logo and the font. A non-profit I work for just had business cards printed and the logo wasn't the right color because they said "use orange" rather than the actual color code.Hope that helps,
