11 Quick (and Good) Content Ideas for Your Ezine or Blog

Publishing articles, especially via an ezine or blog is an ideal opportunity to showcase your business. By sharing your knowledge and expertise you can build your credibility as an expert while advertising your services and products.

If there’s ever a time you find yourself without a subject to write about, here are 11 quick (and good) ideas.

1. Give real-life success stories. Describe a problem you’ve solved for a client/customer.

2. Think of three areas in which you’d like your clients to think of you as a resource. For example, as a previous professional copywriter, I helped encourage my clients to hire me for projects by publishing several articles on how to write Web copy that sells.

3. Read industry publications for ideas. Are there any controversial issues in your field right now? Offer your opinion!

4. Jot down 8 questions your clients have asked you in the past. If you can’t think of any, ask your clients what they’d like to learn about.

5. Learn anything lately from an industry conference, seminar, or insightful article? Pass on advice you’ve learned elsewhere – just give them full attribution. Or give your opinion of the event or article.

6. Offer a list of your top 5 or 10 tips on a certain subject. Be sure to put your best tip first.

7. Interview associates whose expertise would interest your readers. E-mail interviews are incredibly easy. Just e-mail your interviewee 3 to 5 questions.

8. Recommend books and resources that you use, and offer full reviews on them. In my original ezine, I reviewed four of my favorite copywriting resource books.

9. Invite clients or readers to write you with their own questions. Right after their question, publish the person’s name, business, and Web address, with their permission.

10. Invite readers to send in profiles. Ask them to tell you about themselves – their names, businesses, locations, and how they use the information in your e-zine.

11. When all else fails, borrow an article! Online articles are free and available. The only catch is that you have to leave the article intact and include the author’s promotional information. One of my favorite places to go is http://www.ezinearticles.com">www.ezinearticles.com.

One last note: Keep in mind that if your ezine’s main objective is to get you more clients and customers, you should NOT feature other writers’ articles more than once. Remember our main goal is to continually showcase YOU.

Great post Ali. Liveblogging conferences is a great way to create useful content and if you bring a video camera, you can get spontaneous interviews with people your readers want to learn from. There are many ways to repurpose content too including revisiting older blog posts and revising them with current news & statistics. Roundups of industry news are also pretty popular.

One thing we did with our blog was to launch a good sized list of blogs in our industry. Each with a short description. Then we posted mini-reviews of a handful of blogs every week or so afterwards. Bloggers would see themselves added to the list and many of them linked back to us (even direct competitors) using the badge code we provided. Others that have not been added to the list send request emails for consideration. Doing the short reviews each week or two gives readers exposure to new content that's useful and it also recognizes other bloggers in the industry. Our BIGLIST has attracted over 40k links!

Thanks Ali! This is an excellent resource for bloggers who experience writer's block. In the world of ecommerce there are so many subjects to tackle, and we always recommend that our store owners use their blog as a resource for their own customers. It helps to create a relationship with the customer base creating loyalty and return visits. It's easy to use a blog to engage customers in a conversation, or even take a poll for a particular subject.

We have found that many ecommerce business owners have a hard time just getting started with a blog. We created a resource for them on our own blog with our "Two Minute Tuesday" video series. You can see that blog and others here: http://bit.ly/h8XwQa

    Thanks again for this write-up!
