If you want to generate some buzz quickly and at the same time provide “SEO food” to attract customers and the media to your site, you should be writing press releases at least once a week.
The key is to make sure you have a story to write about. You can pretty much turn any news item into a big story that can be sold as a press release. Let’s take as an example, the Nuke webinar we produced for one of our clients. We managed to get 8 sponsors, 1000 registered attendees and over $12,000 in prize giveaways. That’s a story. A big story.
The key to a press release is to have a good title that will attract readers and entice them to click on the title link. Also, just as important, is to use proper keywords in your body of the press release because all those keywords is what will (hopefully) match your press release against the searches the media and users perform. The third (and probably most important part) is to have links coming back to your site from your press release. This is where the power of SEO comes into play with press releases. Having incoming relevant links from many sites (which press releases are distributed through) is very important to bring up your PR (Google Page Rank) score.
