Removing all barriers for online video

A growing trend in online video seems to be focused on doing everything possible to create fresh content without too much hassle. Making online video as painless as possible means that clients just have to push one button and the rest happens automatically.

For instance, several new business models have sprung up that will actually mail you a mini Flip digital video recorder for you to record your content on. You (the client) just push a giant red button to record. Once you are done recording your subject, you simply mail the Flip camera back to the vendor. With a little guidance, this vendor will quickly upload your video to the web complete with some simple edits and title screens and you are ready to go.

It's certainly low cost and low fi, but will it do the job? What do you think?

Creating content isn't a goal in itself but the first step in the process of using digital media to showcase your domain expertise in front of potential customers and partners. That said, the key to success is really in the distribution and making that content discoverable through syndication, content partnerships, search engine optimization, etc.

I recently launched LegalMinds.TV to not only offer law firms turn-key video production - "making online video as painless as possible," as you put it - but to provide the essential component that's missing in most of the new business models you mentioned and that's distribution and discoverability.
