When is the best time to market for the holidays via mail/newspaper?radio/WEB ?

We have a limited budget to work with so I want to spend my marketing dollars at the right time and in the right place.

We have reserved a half page add for the Wednesday before black Friday and we have a 4x5 add at the top of the newspaper once a month June-Dec.

We do run a few email campaigns monthly as well.

Last year we did 2 weeks of radio ads in Oct, Nov & Dec. I think it was a waste of $8k.

Any advice from small business owners in retail would be great.

Thanks!

For what type of business is this? Presuming this is retail, is a stand alone store, in a strip mall or larger shopping mall? What is the demographics and target market? Is there an online store as well?

Regarding radio, target plays a role here. If younger, they are not listening to the radio. Running 2 weeks in a month - was it run every day or stacked over a few days to get repeats?

Newspaper- again this depends upon the demographic. Is there a larger store that offers the same product where they can go and get other things (ie a target or walmart)?

I would love to give some sound advice but a little more info is needed.

It is in a boutique style outside walkable mall. It is called Gardner Village. The shops theme is dolls. Collector dolls and 18" dolls and all the clothes and accessories you can think of. The Village is a destination for many. It is a great place to be during the last quarter of the year, but during the other 9 months we run at a break even give or take.

    Target market - Moms- 25-65.

Radio was ran every day for 2 weeks. It came on about 6 times a day during prime driving time.

This store is everything dolls. The items we sell are not stocked by the box stores. What makes our store unique to the region are two things. Huge selection of 18" high quality doll clothes. The kids can play with with and you can wash them and they are not going to fall apart. Second - The owner is an antique doll collector with a passion for dolls. She has extensive knowledge of dolls and can meet just about any clients wishes.

We are working to get online by the holiday season.

What do you think?
