Fanminder, that's amazing that you can pay all your contractors in equity. Aeron chairs, huh? Visions of 1999 just popped into my head for some reason ....
Right on Anita! These are 5 fantastic principles to live by, each one, I couldn't agree more. At our tech start-up, Fanminder, we 100% boostrapped a tech start-ups largest potential expense - people - and pay all 15 contractors 100% in equity. You'd be amazed at how most people want to work for every reason except financial remuneration. This has allowed us to go from cocktail napkin to beta launch with almost no money down and has provided valuable "start-up" skills for our team members. In fact, legal's been our only expense and even there, we should have bootstrapped. The other day I referred an ex-colleague to a fellow CEO and the CEO hired him. As a gift we received 4 Aeron chairs! I felt like we hit a double in the bootstrapping world series! :-)

Anita - you are so right, 1999, and BOY are those chairs awesome. Paying all team members in equity is NOT for the faint of heart. It's a continuous effort to inspire, motivate, understand, forgive, recruit, cajole, coax, prune, etc...of course there was never any Plan B and since no one told me I couldn't do it, well...you get the pic :-)
