IT Consultant Mark Messmore discusses his recent adoption of the AcceptPay solution and its positive impact on his small business.

Running a small business is a challenge, as many small business owners would agree. Just ask IT consultant and business owner, Mark Messmore, who wanted to integrate e-commerce into his offerings and take his invoicing digital but found the available options to be less than inspiring. “Initially, we tried a different solution, but it was absolutely not feasible for our business. The way it printed off invoices didn’t adapt to the way our business was designed. We’d generate one and then spend a lot of time manipulating it.” And when it came to ecommerce solutions, his options were even less appealing: “In the past, there was an enormous fee to get integration into the website. We’d do some purchases online, but when customers were purchasing online it turned out to be a complete fiasco.” This wasn’t a good situation to be in, especially for a technology consulting company.

Mark’s opinion then changed when he tried AcceptPay, the digital invoicing and payment solution from American Express. “AcceptPay has been great for us. We were generating our invoices by hand, and constantly hounding our customers. Now, we can handle everything online, or over the phone. And our customers can manage their own accounts, and manage all their payments online.” Simplifying payments was only the beginning, though. With a digital solution, Mark also added both flexibility and security to his recordkeeping. “I was thrilled with the flexibility. It was awesome for us, and the fact that you can track your billing is really great. Plus, all the data is stored safely off-site. So our business doesn't have security worries or servers trying to store all that information.”

And, AcceptPay helped Mark with his e-commerce integration. “It was incredibly simple to integrate into our webpage and now customers can just go to the “buy now” button and they’re taken to a form, they pay directly, we ship out and away we go. It streamlined our e-commerce.”

In addition to the simplicity, security and flexibility offered by AcceptPay, Mark found another reason to become a fan—affordability. “I loved the fact that there was no contract. We’ve been nailed by a couple different payment processors. And for a small business without a ton of revenue, you don’t want to get locked in. The rate AcceptPay gave us for various credit cards was actually less than what we were paying before. The monthly fee is only about $20/month, so it was a no-brainer.”

For small business owners thinking about going digital,
AcceptPay offers a number of benefits. Still, Mark may say it best when summing up his thoughts on AcceptPay: “It was exactly what my small business needed. It offered competitive rates and allowed me to get paid quicker. And allowed me to expand my business into ecommerce effortlessly.”

I think that integration into ecommerce sites is going to be the key factor in invoicing and bookkeeping in general. I'm glad to see that AcceptPay is already on top of it.
