Angel Investors

I wonder what others think angel investors. I wrote an article in http://Forbes.com">Forbes.com about this topic and would like to hear about experiences of those that have had. You can read the article at http://www.forbes.com/2010/03/01">http://www.forbes.com/2010/03/01/angel-investors-venture-capital-personal-finance-invest.html

For starters, I think angel investors are great...since I am one [grin]. As an angel who has made over 80 investments into potential high growth startups myself, it's clear to me that organized, efficient angel financing is rapidly become much more mainstream than it has been in the past.

As an entrepreneur, my company, Angelsoft (www.angelsoft.net), provides the web-based infrastructure the powers virtually all of the angel groups you described in your article: over 500 of them in 50 countries. To give you an idea of the scale of the angel world, we currently have over 20,000 accredited investors on our platform, who have used it to review over 80,000 (yup, eighty THOUSAND) business plans from enthusiastic entrepreneurs.

It's important, however, to be clear-eyed and realistic about the likelihood of getting an outside equity investment. The odds are steep: 1 in 400 for venture financing; 1 in 40 for angel investors.

What do you think?
