A message will leave the Inbox and only appear in All Mail when you Archive it. Are you clicking Archive in the webmail interface? If you delete the message using an IMAP client, GMail will Archive the message instead of actually deleting it. Are you deleting the messages via Outlook, iPhone mail app, or some other IMAP client?

If you are not archiving or deleting these messages, you may want to check that no one else is using your account. It's a good idea to look at the bottom of your GMail page - you should see something similar to "Last account activity: 15 minutes ago at IP 166.137.17.45. Details". If you click "Details" it will show you a list of the recent IP addresses that have accessed your account.

If you suspect your account is being accessed by someone else, you should change your password immediately. You can change your password by clicking "Settings" at the top right. Then click "Accounts" tab and follow the link called "Change Password".

    Cheers,

While I periodically archive msgs, that is not what is happening here ... and ... there is no indication that anyone knows my user name or pw ... msgs have moved from INBOX to ALL MAIL (since early this year) anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 days ... there was a period a couple of months ago when things were back to "normal" where msgs moved to ALL MAIL only when they were archived ... but now it's typically an hour or 2 before they are moved.

What do you think?
