Is it worthwhile to get a netbook?

I have been considering getting a netbook so that I can lug it everywhere I go without having a big & bulky laptop. They are getting a lot of attention lately, with many different companies touting theirs as the latest, greatest invention. Has anyone been using a netbook in place of a laptop, or is it a better idea to get one in addition to a laptop? I would like to be able to work on projects on weekends at a coffee shop or someplace outside of the office.

Netbook is invented for the group of people who just need to get online and not much anything else. If you plan to use it to work on projects (as you mentioned), it may not be a good choice for you in my opinion.

I use my netbook while traveling - and for that purpose, I couldn't be happier with it.

A netbook should be looked at as an additional computer that you carry with you when you travel. I keep a desktop computer in the office - and when I am travelling I use my Netbook to remotely connect to my office computer and work on it. In my opinion, a screen size less than 11 inches is not comfortable to work with.

I use netbook for a very short trip , 1or 2 day trip...but if I have a LONG trip I bring BOTH netbook and the laptop.. Netbook is used at Airports/ hotel lobby etc on the road etc easier to just turn it on and access to check quick email etc verus heavy laptop...While I leave the LAPTOP in hotel room for when i come back in the room to do some hard work. Short Trips I dont do hard work until i get back to the office...

If you want to get a netbook they are awesome. I would suggest if you do decide to get one for travel the get something like "LogMeIn" or have a virtual desktop setup. This is a GREAT way to travel without lugging a laptop and still actually being able to be productive.

On the flip side of having virtual desktop software, Google Apps or Microsoft BPOS will be a great second option so you can get rid of the bigger laptop totally... That is a hard life to adjust to though :). Getting apps into the "cloud" is a great way to get rid heavy hardware and just having "NetBooks" and/or "Iphone" devices.

What do you think?
