PBX for a small business

Hi,

We have 4 lines and about seven phones. They all hooked up straight to the lines. Wiring is kind of complicated when we have to hook up all these different phones together. I was wondering if we should get a pbx system and if anyone knows any cheaper one. I'll appreciate any help.

    Hi Devin,

We just set up a virtual PBX via Phones.com and saved a ton! We used their Linksys phone adaptor and have unlimited extensions.

    It's working great for us.

If you are looking for a great inexpensive phone system and don't want to go the hosted route; fin a local installer that sells and installs; Asterisk phone systems. Check out: http://www.asterisk.org/ - the programming for the PBX is open source and they sell a "turn key" solution to phone and IT providers. Amazingly you can get a full VOIP system installed for your 7 users for around $5000.. Thats phone system, voicemail and easy to purchase anywhere: Polycom HD VOIP handsets.. Nice setup for very little $.
We work with several telecom dealers and by far, a GOOD setup Asterisk system is the most "bang for the buck" telephony solution I have seen. Hosted phone systems are getting more and more popular but in the event that your chosen host goes out of biz or runs out of funding (investors); you and your business are out of commission and you have to do it all over again! We also offer financing solutions, check us out at olyfinancial dot com if you need help funding it! ~Jarrod

I agree with Mark above. Phone.com's Virtual Office (http://www.phone.com) is outstanding. Here at Information Results (http://www.informationresults.com), we combine Phone.com's robust VO capabilities with plain old analog business class phones from Panasonic. Cost for 7 users would be around $500 for the hardware, and the monthly fees start around $10/month.

Thank you for the tips. I was hoping for not using a VOIP because of the voice quality and we don't need the virtual receptionist.
Jarrod, I heard about asterisk and I think it's really nice. It's just little costly right now. Please do let me know if you find any other, more affordable. Thank you

    Hi Devinder,

If you are interested in a actual phone system, I recommend http://www.UsedPhones.com they offer quality phone systems at great prices and warranty all equipment for one year. We have purchased two systems from them over the years and have recommended to many of our customers.

They have several packages and only deal with all major brands such as Avaya, Nortel, and Panasonic.
I just looked at the site and they have a packages for as low as $ 499 that include the system, phones and some include voicemail and automated attendant.

Proud owner of a Panasonic 12X32 system since 2001 that keeps on ticking. In some cases the cost of a hosted PBX can outweigh the cost of purchasing outright. I looked at the phone.com deal and it looks good but why pay for it when you can integrate your inexpensive system with Google Voice http://www.google.com/voice

    I hope this helps.

What do you think?
