Surviving Bad Publicity
The recent Salmonella outbreak and subsequent egg recall has been a huge case of bad publicity for egg producers and has shaken consumers' confidence in the industry. We'll take a look at how businesses can survive public relations nightmares. Picurro's Pizza was a popular pizza chain in the Tucson, Arizona area. But when co-owner Peter Picurro was arrested for soliciting an underage girl on the Internet, the business was practically ruined. His ex-wife, Terry, sprung into action to save the small pizza chain after sales plummeted at all of their stores. An effective PR campaign was quickly put into action, including transferring ownership to Terry, changing the name of the stores to Fresco Pizza and reaching out to customers asking for their continued support of the business which employed 150 people. See how these efforts saved this small chain.
